What You'll Need
An old plastic basket with drainage holes
Potting soil or garden soil
Compost or aged manure
Onion sets, bulbs, or seeds
Watering can

Step 1: Prepare the Basket
Clean the basket thoroughly.
If the holes are large, line the inside with landscape fabric, burlap, or newspaper.
Fill the basket with a loose soil mixture:
70% potting soil
30% compost
Do not compact the soil.
